NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Kings take a risk, Magic win with two studs
By Logan Struck
16. Utah Jazz (via MIN): Nick Smith Jr., CG, Arkansas
The Utah Jazz find themselves in a dream scenario where they draft Taylor Hendricks with the 9th pick, and then a talented guard falls to them at 16. Smith is a talented scorer with an impressive skillset that gives him the potential to be a franchise point guard in Utah. An offensive duo of Smith and Lauri Markkanen would be fun to watch, as Smith would thrive in Utah’s system.
17. Los Angeles Lakers: Jordan Hawkins, SG, UCONN
Free agency is about to hit the Lakers hard, shrinking their backcourt depth severely. Hawkins provides impressive shooting and championship experience to a Los Angeles team unsure about LeBron James’ future. Whether the Lakers are ready to run it back or they are starting fresh, Hawkins is NBA-ready.
18. Miami Heat: Kobe Bufkin, PG, Michigan
The Miami Heat are entering next season with point guard problems. With Gabe Vincent pending unrestricted free agency and an aging Kyle Lowry, Miami needs to focus on point guard depth with this pick. Kobe Bufkin is an impressive two-way presence and great with the ball in his hands. The 19-year-old spent two seasons at Michigan, where we saw an improvement in his jump shot. If he keeps improving his game, Bufkin has an elite upside.
19. Golden State Warriors: Kris Murray, PF, Iowa
The Golden State Warriors are still in win-now mode, regardless of Draymond Green’s future with the team. Kris Murray is an NBA-ready forward who possesses the skills to be an immediate impact on the Warriors. The 6’8″ forward can play multiple positions with defensive versatility. He is a prototypical 3-and-D prospect with the potential to be much more.
