Kings who are playing for their future in Sacramento: Kessler Edwards

First up is the newest member of the Sacramento Kings, wing Kessler Edwards. It isn’t really fir to him but it’s simply the reality of the situation. What he can show over the course of the remainder of this season will dictate if the team has any interest in keeping him around long-term.

Sacramento holds a team option on Edwards for next year. His contract was signed to be a ‘prove it’ type of deal from day one and that is exactly what it is today.

The toughest part for Edwards is his inconsistent role as of right now. He couldn’t get on the court early in his Kings tenure but when Mike Brown recently gave him a little run, he made the absolute most out of it.

Edwards flashed everything that makes him an interesting long-term piece and even played a significant role in the Kings massive win against the Phoenix Suns. Unfortunately, that role won’t be possible every night. More likely, it’s not available most nights.

Still, Edwards already made it clear he can make the most out of any little chance he gets and that will have to continue to be his mindset as the season wears on. More importantly, how he performs in practice and what he brings to the team and locker room on a daily basis could be the most important parts of how the Kings can evaluate him.

If he is a positive presence and increases the level of play in practices, there’s a fairly decent chance the Kings would want to bring him back. His salary next year would be very cheap and his talent is there, it’s just a matter of if it can get displayed on a consistent basis.
