Rim Protecting bigs the Sacramento Kings can sign – D.J. Wilson

D.J. Wilson is another former first-round pick that is currently playing in the NBA G-League. He was selected 17th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2017 NBA Draft.

Like Cauley-Stein, Wilson is talented and can do specific things on the basketball court. In a limited role that is only asked to play a handful of minutes on specific occasions, it seems like Wilson could be an asset worthy of rostering.

Sure, he hasn’t been able to catch on in the NBA since he came out of Michigan. He is again displaying all those skills that made people intrigued with him entering the draft.

Now he is doing it in the G-League, though. Wilson has had some monster performances playing for the Oklahoma City Blue this season.

He’s averaging 19.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. While that is a lot more than anyone in the NBA would ask him to do on the court, including the Kings, it shows he can do more than just the specialized stuff at times.

He blocks 1.4 shots per game and is finishing around the rim. He doesn’t have the size some other centers have but he is a better shot contester down low than the Kings backup big men right now.

He also plays with high energy and would be looking to earn his way back into the league. There’s more unknown about him right now in terms of what he can be counted on for, so the Kings would be smart to approach him with a ten-day contract before anything else.
