As we head into the middle part of the 2022-23 NBA season, we approach the trade deadline, as well as All-Star weekend. And for the first time in what seems like a lifetime, the Sacramento Kings are considered to be a contender in the Western Conference. This makes the trade deadline considerably more interesting for the organization, as they may look to make some roster changes to prepare for the playoffs.

We all remember what happened this time last year, as the Kings made a massive 6-player trade with the Indiana Pacers. Former King point guard Tyreese Haliburton was the key piece involved in the transaction, as Sacramento acquired PF/C Domantas Sabonis in exchange for him, Buddy Hield, and Tristan Thompson.

Many fans and members of the media were outraged that the Kings would “give up” on Haliburton after just a few seasons. However, looking back on it now, it may go down as one of the best trades in Sacramento King history, as it possibly could help end the playoff drought.

Today, we’ll dissect a couple of potential players, specifically rim protectors in the Eastern Conference, that could attract Monte McNair and the rest of the front office. It’s clear about what “needs” this team has, as they still don’t have your typical center in the rotation.

Alex Len and Richaun Holmes have barely gotten any run this season, and Sabonis can’t do it all. An addition to the middle of this lineup would be helpful, especially with the Kings sitting at 22nd in total team defense. This team has a flaw, and that is currently it.
