Kings trade: Team that could buy low on Richaun Holmes – Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are one of the more interesting teams in the NBA heading into trade deadline season.  They currently sit outside the playoff picture and are five games below .500, with a talented roster when you break it down by individual pieces.

For a number of reasons, things haven’t come together this year for the Raptors. Now, tough decisions must be made because of some of their current contract situations. Most notably, guard Fred VanVleet has been the center of recent speculation due to the contract extension he apparently turned down prior to this season.

He isn’t the first Raptor to be involved in rumors this season and won’t be the last. Given the struggles they have endured all season, it’s fair to wonder if FVV or another one of their players could be the centerpiece of one of the big trades we see at the deadline.

For Holmes, no one of that tier is being moved by Toronto. Still, if they choose to go in another direction or even wait this season out, Holmes could make sense for them at the right price. He would help solidify their somewhat inconsistent center rotation and he has no problem playing off the ball.

The Raptors are one of those teams that always seem to get the most out of their players. That has changed this year, but investing in Holmes and his talent would make sense for Toronto. His money could help in any bigger trade that sees someone like FVV or O.G. Anunoby get shipped out.

A veteran forward like Thaddeus Young could be a great asset for the Kings bench, so he might be someone they look to bring back for their playoff push in any type of deal involving Toronto. His contract is not fully guaranteed for next season.
