Kings trade: Team that could buy low on Richaun Holmes – Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz are one of the NBA’s most surprising teams this season so far and it’s clear they aren’t going to be able to bottom out like many thought they planned on doing this season. Even though they slowed down from their blazing-hot start to the season, they remain relatively competitive and have enough talent to win a game on any given night.

Still, they are focused on two things right now: Developing young talent and acquiring assets to eventually turn into young talent. Assets become that much more valuable when the team won’t be able to hit rock bottom and get high lottery odds year after year.

For that reason, could the Jazz look at bringing in a player such as Richaun Holmes? He isn’t a young talent and the Kings would not be giving up much in terms of assets just to dump him off. Still, they might make more sense than one would think.

If the Jazz decide to take the old Oklahoma City Thunder path, which is bringing undervalued talent in, reestablishing their value, then flipping them for assets in the future, the Jazz might be a perfect landing spot for Holmes.

A player like former King Rudy Gay could be used in this type of deal. He’d bring a veteran presence to the Kings roster and be more useful as forward depth on the Kings than Holmes is as center depth.

There would be more to any trade, obviously, but the Jazz might be a perfect spot to get Holmes minutes and remind the league of what he can do. He can play a role off the bench and not interfere with the development of young big man Walker Kessler.
