Kings pass or pursue: Pascal Siakam

The standout player on this list, Pascal Siakam is already a star in the NBA today and he would give the Kings a locked and loaded big three for many years to come. That is, assuming the Kings could reach an agreement with him on an extension before the end of next season.

That is when Siakam is due to hit free agency. While there could be risk involved because of the short time he has under contract, a player of his caliber could be well worth that risk. Siakam is a star on both ends of the court and is extremely versatile on either end.

Due to his offensive and defensive versatility, Siakam would seemingly slide in perfectly next to the core pieces the Kings have already assembled. He can do it all on both ends and would give the Kings a legitimate chance of knocking off anyone in the western conference playoffs this year.

He’s on the Raptors, who could be willing to listen to offers for any older players. If the Kings were able to swing a deal for the right price in their minds, how could Sacramento pass up on adding a talent like Siakam to their already talented team?

The price would certainly be steep. That should be the case for a player of his caliber, though. The Kings would need to get creative and aggressive to make this kind of deal happen but it’s the kind of move that could transform them from a feel-good story to a legitimate contender for years to come.

It’s not easy to envision the Raptors moving Siakam, let alone the Kings offering the strongest package and winning the bidding war that would inevitably take place. Still, he made the list of potential targets and there is no doubt the Kings front office should be doing the groundwork to see if they can acquire him and if so, how hefty of a price would they have to pay.
