Pass or Pursue: 3 Wings the Kings have been linked to
Kings pass or pursue: OG Anunoby
Our next wing that could be of significant interest to the Sacramento Kings is Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby. Like the Wizards, the Raptors aren’t meeting expectations coming into this season and because of that, they may start looking to flip talent for assets.
If they do take that route before this year’s trade deadline, Anunoby could be one of their top players made available. With the presence of the up-and-coming Scottie Barnes on the roster, the Raptors know they can afford to move on from Anunoby and still be in a great position on the wing.
At only 25 years old, Anunoby once again would fit the right age range the Kings should be preferring in any significant trade. Unlike Kuzma, he has another year under contract that would ensure the Kings have him next season. After that, it would be up to the player himself as he holds a player option for the 2024-25 season.
Anunoby might be the perfect fit from this list of trade candidates. His game is perfect to play off the ball alongside players like Fox and Sabonis but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a capable scorer on his own. He could be asked to score in certain situations and have no problem playing the second or third option in certain lineups.
Most important, though, is what he brings on the defensive end of the court. Anunoby would instantly become the Kings best perimeter defender if they acquired him and he would naturally make the team much better on that end of the court.
Trading for him would give the Kings a defender to put on the opponent’s best player night in and night out. He seems like the kind of player that enjoys playing on the defensive end, as well, which is exactly the type of mentality the Kings need to be adding to their roster.
At the right price, Anunoby would be a perfect piece to add to the current Kings core.
