In the closing moments of the Sacramento Kings bad loss to the Washington Wizards Friday night, things seemingly took an aggressive turn in a very bad way. As the final minutes played out, all-star big man and current best player on the Kings roster, Domantas Sabonis, appeared to injure his right hand.

He immediately left the court and went straight to the locker room with a member of the training staff. Now, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN provided this update on the Sabonis situation.

It’s a tough update to look much into, for obvious reasons. There is still a lot unknown about the situation but the one thing we now do know is that Sabonis did indeed injure his hand and there could be more to this situation in the coming days.

While everyone will continue to hope for the best, hopefully, a more in-depth update comes out sooner rather than later. Sabonis was on an absolute tear so far this season and he is the one player on the Kings roster that the team can’t afford to miss for a significant amount of time.

Speculating is never a good idea. That being said, the news is not bad news, which can be looked at in a hopeful way. Any updates or developments will be shared as they come out.

  • Even before the Sabonis injury, the Kings appeared to be interested in adding another big man to their rotation. They desperately need improved depth and that’s before factoring in any potential time Sabonis might miss. Mo Bamba has been added to the list of names to keep an eye on, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
  • The Kings hold the sixth seed in the Western Conference entering Christmas Day with a record of 17-14.

  • Several rival teams that are sitting right outside the playoff picture right now are dealing with major injuries. The Warriors are in 11th and currently don’t have Steph Curry available while the Lakers are in 13th and just lost Anthony Davis for an undetermined amount of time.
