Sacramento Kings Bold Predictions for the 2022-2023 Season

The Kings will snap their 16-season playoff drought

Amid the trade for Sabonis at the deadline last season, in addition to the coaching change at the beginning of the year, Sacramento finished with a 30-52 record and just four games out of the final play-in spot. If the offense takes a leap and is supported by a better effort on the defensive end, why can’t the Kings achieve the boldest prediction of them all?

The Seattle Mariners ended their postseason drought this year, and maybe it’s time for the Kings to do the same.

The top six teams in the conference make the playoffs based on record by default, with the seventh through 10th seeds battling it out in the play-in. Of the teams that ranked in the top 10 in the West last year, the Utah Jazz and San Antonio Spurs are clearly transitioning into a rebuilding phase. That’s two vacant spots for the taking, and Sacramento should by all means be in the mix.

It will take a collective effort from the veterans, new coaching staff, and new faces to the roster to finally rid the organization of the longest playoff drought in North American sports. But the pieces are there, it is just a matter of making them fit. Following the Mariners’ cue, the Kings will not only find themselves within play-in contention, but they will end up making the playoffs and ending their 16-year postseason absence.
