There are rumors about how the NBA plans to return to action, and the Sacramento Kings could be on the list of team’s invited to participate.

After many weeks of uncertainty, it looks as though the NBA is finally making some serious strides in bringing back the 2019-’20 season, and there is a good chance that the Sacramento Kings will be involved.

While there has been no official announcement regarding how or when the NBA’s plans will take place, there have been plenty of rumors and rumblings from some of the sport’s most trusted sources. Over the last week, we have heard about a “bubble” campus in either Orlando or Las Vegas, and rough estimates of what the league calendar would look like.

On Wednesday afternoon, some information as to which teams will be involved in the re-boot came across the Twitter feed via ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski:

Time for the big eye emojis.

After much discussion as to whether or not the league would restart the regular season in any capacity or move straight to the playoffs, it seems as though we have reached a compromise.

While this is not yet written in stone, Wojnarowski’s word certainly carries a lot of weight. The NBA understandably wants to get as much basketball in as possible, but the circumstances may only allow them to invite a certain amount of team’s to the central location. Bringing just the 16 teams that were in playoff position when the season was suspended has been discussed, which leaves teams that were on the postseason bubble out in the cold. Almost unfairly.

The Trail Blazers, Kings, Pelicans, and Spurs are all within four games of the Grizzlies in the 8th and final playoff spot, and each one has their own case for getting a chance. The Blazers and Pelicans are now at full strength after injuries slowed the starts to their seasons, and the Spurs haven’t missed the playoffs since the Clinton administration.

As for the Kings, they were making a late season surge after an abysmal stretch around the new year. They had won 13 of their previous 20 games and looked as though they could be a dark horse in the race.

A formal decision is expected to be announced by June 1st.
