Richaun Holmes – Football

For a player to cross over from basketball to baseball or soccer is one thing, but football is an entirely different beast. In order to play professionally or even at the collegiate level, a player must be built very well physically to be able to endure the punishment that football inflicts to the body.

The player on the Kings roster who looks like he could take a few hits is Richaun Holmes. The five-year pro is six feet ten inches tall and is listed at 235 pounds. His shoulders are broad and his legs are strong. His size combined with his long limbs and good hands would make Holmes a good fit as an NFL tight end.

Holmes already excels in setting screens, which would translate well to the blocking that a tight end does. He also has reliable hands on the interior of the basketball court when receiving short passes, which is also something that would aid his football development.

Like Bogdanovic, there isn’t a lot of alternate-sport information on Richaun Holmes. But according to an article on NBA.com, as a kid he used to play a game called “hack” with his older brothers. It was a mashup between tackle football and basketball, and Holmes credits it for toughening him as a child.
