5 Years In: Grading Vlade Divac’s Free Agency Moves So Far
2018
Nemanja Bjelica: three-year, $20.5 million (partially guaranteed third year)
This contract is one of the best of the Divac era. Bjelica has been easily worth this money, providing consistently great three-point shooting, solid passing, and overall basketball acumen. He has played more minutes than anyone would have expected when he signed, due to the injury-plagued start to Marvin Bagley‘s career, but nevertheless he has been a terrific value on his deal.
Grade: A
Yogi Ferrell: two-years, $6.2 million (second-year team option)
Ferrell has had some moments in Sacramento during his first season where he came off the bench to hit a couple of threes to ignite a run. In 2019-’20, Ferrell had a tough time cracking the rotation with the addition of Cory Joseph to the team. Ferrell’s percentages were down all across the board this past season, but a lot of that was due to his lack of minutes.
Grade: C+
2018 overall free agency grade: B+
Divac and the front office did well to get Ferrell and especially Bjelica on reasonable deals. Expect the latter to receive a lot more on his next contract.
