There have been some questionable uniform decisions made by the Sacramento Kings, but none worse than the gold alternates. And ESPN agrees.

The Sacramento Kings’ organization has made some questionable decisions over the years, from botched draft picks to unfavorable trades. But there is one decision that ESPN has ranked as the worst in the history of the NBA.

According to Senior Writer Ryan McGee of ESPN.com, the worst jerseys ever worn on an NBA court are the gold alternates that the Kings wore during the 2005′-06 season.

They were so bad. The jerseys were a silky gold that was more of a pale yellow, a color shade that doesn’t exactly mesh with the bold purple cursive letters that sprawled across the chest. They had uneven patterns around the arm holes and the uniform numbers in a tiny spot above the heart.

During the NBA’s current hiatus (and prior, too), fans have had a chance to be outspoken about such topics as their favorite or least favorite jersey or color scheme their team has ever had. A large majority of Kings Twitter is in agreement with McGee’s assessment of the gold unis, but there were a surprising handful of people who did their best to defend the golds.

While the Kings only made the top-10 list once, we have gripes with another Sacramento alternate uniform as well.

The red “City” alternates that Sacramento unveiled during the 2019-’20 season were terrible too. It is not that the were overtly ugly like the gold ones, it is just that the color red is so far from what the Kings are known for. And the fact that they chose games against the Bulls and Trail Blazers to wear them made it a questionable decision all around.

The gold jerseys are certainly one of the worst in NBA history, though we don’t think they should be number one on this list. We believe that the worst jerseys ever worn in the association are the ones that McGee ranked #2, and those are the Dallas Mavericks silver trash bag look during 2003-’04.
