3 Reasons Why The Sacramento Kings Should Trade Buddy Hield
High Value
Our third and final reason why the Kings should trade Buddy Hield is not so much a matter of “why” as it is a matter of “why right now?”
Hield is not getting any younger, and he tends to get older quicker than most people. Hield will be turning 28 in December, an old age for someone who has played just four NBA seasons. At his age and production level, he would be the perfect third scoring option on one of the contending teams in the NBA, but for how long?
It is true that shooters age more gracefully that their high-flying counterparts, so it is possible that Hield holds on to his three-point prowess for at least a few more seasons. But there might be a limit to how many timelines he fits.
For example, the Chicago Bulls might be one of the most likely trade partners given their front office changes and slew of talent and assets. But Hield might be on the older side of what the Bulls believe to be their future window, and they could be reluctant to give up assets for someone who likely doesn’t fit the timeline.
Nonetheless, Hield’s trade value is likely at its peak right this moment. He had a small regression this last season after a career year in 2019-’20, which could mark the beginning of a steady decline. Should Hield’s numbers take yet another dip during next season, then his trade value will be diminished even further.
The Kings would be smart to start fielding phone calls on Buddy Hield, and they’d better start doing it now.
