The NBA could be cooking up the idea of a H-O-R-S-E competition. Which Sacramento Kings players would we like to see participate?

The NBA has a new potential idea to give its fans something to watch and consume during the current hiatus. We were given the NBA 2K Players Tournament, in which our Sacramento Kings were represented, though not very ceremoniously. Now, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the league is cooking up an idea to have players compete in games of H-O-R-S-E

The reported talks are just preliminary, and the exact details of the event obviously need time to be ironed out. There are many players who don’t even have home access to a basketball hoop. But got us thinking: which Sacramento Kings players would we want to see in a H-O-R-S-E competition?

Buddy Hield

Buddy Hield would be the obvious and most likely choice. He is one of the top shooters in the entire league, and certainly the best on the Kings. He can light it up from anywhere on the floor, and any player who is the current 3-Point Contest champion would hold their own in a competition that rewards good shooting.

The place where Hield could struggle would be anything that involves above the rim play. Again, the details of the competition are unknown, and dunking would likely be outlawed. But if it wasn’t, a LeBron James vs. Hield contest would be over pretty quickly.

De’Aaron Fox

While De’Aaron Fox is not necessarily the most gifted shooter on the Kings, he would excel in a game of H-O-R-S-E due to his craftiness and ability to hit the circus shot. He has a solid mid-range game and his athleticism would help him with any shots around the rim. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to show off his most prominent attribute, as speed holds no value in a game of creative shot-making.

Fox might not be the player on the Sacramento roster that would have the best chance of winning, but he would be very entertaining to watch. And that’s the point, isn’t it?

Kyle Guy

Kyle Guy would be our dark horse candidate. The national audience would see his name and wonder who that was, before remembering that shooter on the Virginia team that won the NCAA Tournament last season. Guy was lighting it up in Stockton this last season for the Kings’ G-League affiliate, and would hold his own in any shooting contest.

Nemanja Bjelica

Wait, Nemanja Bjelica? Yes.

We know he is not the most athletic player, and if you want to talk about playing below the rim, this is your guy. But imagine Bjelica being in crunch time of a H-O-R-S-E game and lining up a 34 footer from the deep wing in an open gym. You are sure that ball is going in.
