Harrison Barnes participated in the NBA 2K Players Tournament on Friday and represented the Kings. We kind of wish he hadn’t.

ESPN began airing its coverage the first annual (and hopefully ever) NBA 2K Players Tournament on Friday evening, and Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes was a participant in one of the four matchups. He went up against Trae Young in the 6:30PM timeslot in a matchup of the 2 and 15 seeds. Barnes played as the Toronto Raptors, Young as the Milwaukee Bucks.

The game was never close and has us questioning whether Barnes should have been in this tournament, and whether he’d ever played 2K before. Young jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and never looked back, laying the whooping on Barnes by a final score of 101-59. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 16 points and 16 assists at halftime.

While the game itself was lackluster in regards to entertainment, the real points of interest came in the discussion between the players. After watching the paint dry on the walls behind Kevin Durant and Derrick Jones Jr., it was refreshing to hear the players talk about…something.

Barnes and Young talked about where they are currently located, what their day’s consist of, how the weather is in Sacamento and Norman. Yada Yada Yada. But they talked about some NBA related things as well, specifically the Kings and De’Aaron Fox.

Young asked Barnes what it’s like to play with De’Aaron Fox. Barnes response:

"He’s the best, man. Great dude, great point guard. I’m fortunate….had he been healthy all year, I think we would have had a better year than we had."

This is certainly not new news, nothing we don’t know. But at this point, we’ll take any kind of tidbit of information that we can get. I mean, we’re intently watching guys play video games on TV, for gosh sakes. As Kings fans we of course agree with Barnes, but Young should have asked about Richaun Holmes and Marvin Bagley too if he wanted to know about injuries that derailed the season.

Barnes is out of the tournament, so there is no horse left in the race for the Kings. There is the outside chance that someone plays as the Kings in the tournament, but don’t hold your breath. The next round of games takes place on Sunday at noon.
