Sacramento Kings: Five Classic Games to Watch on Youtube
By Ryan Ritter
Kings vs. Bulls (December 20, 2009)
Okay, so this one isn’t quite complete, as it’s missing the first two and a half quarters. However, look at it as this YouTube video getting straight to the point. Also, once you watch it, you’ll allow me to cheat a little bit for the last entry. This game is a classic in every sense of the term.
The Kings’ recent comeback against the Timberwolves is probably the greatest come-from-behind victory in team history, just in terms of pure spectacle (and time remaining). However, a game from Christmas time of 2009 was the original unbelievable comeback game for Sacramento Kings fans. The Kings were on the road taking on the Chicago Bulls and for the first 30 minutes were getting their behinds handed to them. The score with 8:45 remaining in the 3rd quarter was Bulls 79, Kings 44. That’s where this video picks up.
The final quarter and a half was dominated by future Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans, who finished the game with 23 points and 8 rebounds. However, the hero of the fourth quarter was….you guessed it, Ime Udoka, who scored 15 of Sacramento’s first 22 points in the final period before Evans took over. It was a thrilling, incredible victory, made all the more satisfying by the fact that was on the road. There is nothing like the stunned silence from a road crowd who just got punched in the gut, and it’s a feeling the Kings don’t historically get to experience often.
It’s arguable that the Kings’ victory was more a result of the Bulls being a bad team that took their foot off the gas pedal. However, Sacramento that year wasn’t exactly brilliant themselves; this game put their record at 13-14 for the year before stumbling to a 25-57 finish, consumed by a cynical “20-5-5” campaign for Tyreke.
Regardless of whether the Kings won or the Bulls lost, this is another classic win from Kings’ past. Wouldn’t you rather watch this one on TV than the “Z-Bo scores 35 points” game from last week?
