#3. Harrison Barnes – March 12th, 2011: ACC Tournament vs. Clemson

40 points, 8 rebounds (12 for 17 FG, 10 for 11 FT)

While it wasn’t in the NCAA Tournament, Harrison Barnes performance in the 2011 ACC Tournament was a memorable one. His North Carolina Tar Heels played against the Clemson Tigers in the second round and the freshman Barnes put on quite a show.

His 40 points was his career high by a long shot, his previous best being 27. He was extremely efficient with his shooting stroke, going 12 for 17 from the field (including 6 for 8 three pointers) and made nine of his ten free throw attempts. He was also able to pull down eight rebounds and limited his turnovers to three. He played 41 minutes, the most in any game during his two years under coach Roy Williams.

Barnes had another huge game in the first round of that year’s NCAA Tournament against LIU. He scored 24 points despite shooting just 2 for 10 from deep, and added 16 rebounds, five more than he pulled down in any other game in a Tar Heel uniform. He also added three assists and two steals.

Barnes was one of the most highly touted high school prospects in the early part of the 2010s, but the teams he was a part of in Chapel Hill finished with underwhelming results in his two seasons, never making it past the Elite 8.
