6 NCAA Games For Sacramento Kings Fans To Watch This Weekend
Boston College @ Florida State(7) – Saturday, 1:30 PM PT
This might be the most important one to watch of the bunch. Both of Florida State’s draft prospects are projected first rounders, and there is a chance that both end up as lottery picks
The higher-rated prospect (and our initial pick for the Kings in our Mock Draft 1.0) is Devin Vassell, who is a 3 and D prospect with length and athleticism. He is listed at a shooting guard, but Sacramento could see the six-foot seven-inch sophomore as a wing for added depth behind Barnes. Patrick Williams is a wing who is likely a year or two from being ready to be a part of a regular NBA rotation. He has a lot of development to do on the offensive end, but could have enough upside to be considered in the 14-18 range.
Kansas(1) @ Texas Tech – Saturday, 11 AM PT
The number one ranked Jayhawks have a trio of NBA prospects, and all within a range that Sacramento might be able to afford.
While one of the more unlikely places for the Kings to add depth would be to the point guard position, Devon Dotson could garner some interest. The player that the Kings are more likely to add with their first second-round selection is Udoka Azubuike if they choose to add to their front court. While his game is not exactly the perfect fit for today’s NBA, his big body could be worth stashing in Stockton for a year or two. Shooting guard Ochai Agbaji is a prospect to keep an eye on as well.
Michigan(25) @ Maryland(9) – Sunday, 9 AM PT
This game will feature the prospect that we might be most excited about.
Jalen Smith is a raw yet hyper athletic power forward from Maryland whose draft stock could be rising or declining depending on whom you ask. While there are many teams who would choose to pass on a big man that will need years of development to his offensive game, the Kings could be a team that is desperate enough for some interior help on defense.
While there are other, pressing needs that need to be addressed on the Kings roster, Smith would be a good backup plan if they are unable to grab a wing in the draft.
