3. Taking Advantage

Some may point to the softening of the schedule as one of the reasons for success. The Kings are currently enduring a rather easy stretch of the schedule, and they have capitalized on the opportunity.

The same could not be said about this team back in December when there was another soft spot in the schedule. Sacramento was 11-13 and poised to make an early-season playoff push against the likes of the Knicks, Warriors, and Hornets. They lost two of those three and began the dismal stretch of 3-15 basketball that seemingly knocked the Kings out of the playoff race for good.

This time around, they’ve been taking care of the opponents that they should. Since January 22nd, the Kings have avenged early season losses to the Spurs, Bulls, Timberwolves (x2), Heat, Pistons, and Grizzlies (x2). During that stretch, Sacramento has also defeated the championship-contending Clippers twice on their home floor.

They’ll have to keep up with defeating inferior teams in the month of March if they hope to stay afloat. There are games against the Wizards, Cavaliers, and Hawks still to be played, and this version of the Kings should be able to put up solid fights against the 76ers, Trail Blazers, and Nets.
