A Royal Pain’s 2020 NBA Mock Draft 1.0: Who Will The Sacramento Kings Pick?
After moving up in the draft in each of the last two seasons, the Atlanta Hawks secure the top overall pick in our mock draft after sharing 14 percent odds with the Cavaliers and Warriors.
There appears to be a definitive top-3 in the 2020 NBA Draft, each player with a different position: point guard, wing, big man. The fact that the Hawks get to choose from the three is highly beneficial for them. They have an All-Star point guard in Trae Young, and they just traded for three players (Clint Capela, Dewayne Dedmon, Skal Labissierre) that stand 6 foot 10 inches or taller.
While they did select two wing players in last year’s draft, Anthony Edwards is likely the most talented player in the 2020 iteration, and Atlanta would be wise to nab him despite their recent draft record. Edwards has elite athleticism and an NBA-ready body, and could be ready to be a regular contributor from the beginning.
Edwards does struggle at times with his shooting, as he is making just 31.4 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc so far this season. But shooting is one of the more teachable traits for young NBA players, and his numbers could be masked playing alongside a shooter like Young.
Many times when a player is selected first overall, he is immediately the best player on his team and has expectations set from the beginning. If the Hawks select Edwards, he will for now be able to play second fiddle, something that will be beneficial for him in his rookie season.
