March 31st vs. Spurs

The team that we thought would be jockeying with the Kings for a playoff spot this season was the San Antonio Spurs.

After 18 straight seasons of 50+ wins, the Spurs will fail to reach that mark for the third straight time, and they’ll finish with their lowest win total since at least 1999. Still, Greg Popovich’s team is still a part of the group vying for the 8th seed in the Western Conference despite a 24-33 record to begin March.

While San Antonio currently has a 4% chance of qualifying for the post season, the Spurs are one of the last teams that should be counted out given their track record over the last two decades.

The Kings will play host to the visiting Spurs in the final game of the month on March 31st. The odds tell us that both teams will likely be all but mathematically eliminated by this point, but it is going to be a huge game if they both somehow stay afloat.

Sacramento will be looking to avenge its collapse in San Antonio back in December and will be in the middle of a six game home stand. The Kings three previous opponents will be the Cavaliers, Hawks, and Pacers, so they could be coming in to this one with a bit of momentum as well.

If both teams are miraculously still alive on April 7th, their third and final matchup could be the game of the year for both teams.
