The Sacramento Kings are surprisingly one of the teams vying for the 8th seed in the Western Conference. Which games in March are must-wins to keep hopes alive?

Despite a disappointing 2019-‘20 campaign, the Sacramento Kings somehow find themselves in an unlikely playoff push as they enter the final full month of the regular season. They finished February with a 7-4 record and have won 10 of their last 15 games overall.

The Kings hope that the victory over the Grizzlies in the final contest of the month will provide some momentum to start March off with a bang as they play eight of their next nine games at Golden 1 Center. But in order for Sacramento to have a fighting chance at the 8th seed in the Western Conference, there are three games in particular that are must-wins for the Kings.

March 7th @ Portland

The Trail Blazers were Western Conference runners-up last season but find themselves thick in the mix with the Kings and other teams in a battle for the 8th spot.

Due mostly to injuries, Portland’s season has been a disappointment. Their big men on the front line have suffered serious injuries that have caused them to miss extended time, and their star point guard Damian Lillard has been nursing a groin injury since before the All-Star break. As of February 28th, the Blazers had lost five of their last six games.

The Kings will travel to Portland on March 7th for the fourth and final matchup with the Blazers. The Kings will be coming off of a three game home stand of winnable games, and could have some momentum. Portland will be on the second night of a back-to-back after playing in Phoenix the night before against a Suns team that may or may not still be in the race by that point.

One key to victory in this contest will be Bogdan Bogdanovic, who has performed well in his games against the Blazers this season. In two matchups, he has averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 assists.
