#3. He’s A Professional

Generally, when an athlete asks for/demands a trade, it is typically an unhappy and disgruntled situation. But as we wrote in our January column, Dedmon has handled his trade request to perfection.

All signs pointed to Dedmon being the consummate professional, including quotes from the team leaders saying that the big man was still engaged and focused on the task at hand both in games and in practice.

“He hasn’t been a problem for us, not even little,” De’Aaron Fox told Jason Anderson.

Dedmon even spent time with his teammates off the floor. Just nine days after the initial reports of his trade request, Dedmon was present at a fundraiser for breast cancer that was put on by Fox’s mother.

Show me another athlete that attends team functions and spends his free time building unity with his teammates. I’ll wait.

His professionalism shows on the court as well. After spending a chunk of the season disgruntled over playing time, he has shown hustle and determination in his play. He is diving for loose balls and giving maximum effort to a team that he is currently at odds with. Should he stick around, he will be setting a great veteran example for the young guys about how to handle a tough situation.

Whether or not the Kings deal Dewayne Dedmon before the Thursday trade deadline, his professionalism and leadership should be recognized and applauded.
