In what comes as sudden but not surprising news, Marvin Bagley has deleted his social media presence. Why he did and what it could mean.

There have been plenty of questions surrounding Marvin Bagley and his abundance of injuries, and it seems as though he has had enough.

Bagley has played in just 13 of a possible 49 games due to various ailments, which has to be frustrating in itself for any young competitor. Now, it might be the Kings fans themselves who are beginning to get under Bagley’s skin.

Just last month, Bagley’s father took to Instagram and posted a screenshot of a direct message that his son had received. The message was laced with profanities and racial insults, and included an “I’d kill myself” somewhere in between.

That message is one of what is likely many. With the Kings performing so poorly with Bagley in and out of the lineup compounded with the successes of Luka Doncic and the other players taken in the 2018 NBA Draft, fans are understandably frustrated. Bagley has had his accounts available for direct messages for as long as he has been playing in Sacramento, which is practically an invite to haters to spew their displeasure.

(I wrote Marvin Bagley a direct message once. I asked him if he would consider not filming himself singing while he drives. I did not receive a response.)

So on Saturday night, seemingly during the game against the Lakers, Bagley deleted both his Instagram and Twitter accounts. A search for @mb3five on either network brings up a “this account does not exist” message.

Generally, a sports figure making a drastic change to their public, online presence can mean that the player is either on the move or is unhappy with their current situation. In the case of Marvin Bagley, it seems as though he is simply trying to rid himself of the negativity that is building around his name in Sacramento.
