Buddy Hield made sure that Kyle Guy left Chicago with the game ball for his memorable moment in Friday night’s win over the Bulls.

The Sacramento Kings finally found a way to pull out a victory on Friday evening, beating the Chicago Bulls by a score of 98-81. There was solid play up and down the roster for the Kings, who finished with five players scoring in double figures. Some of the Kings’ success can be attributed to the improved play of Buddy Hield, who was removed from the starting lineup but led Sacramento in scoring with 21 points.

While it will be a happy plane ride to Minnesota for the entire team, one player in particular will be bringing home some in-game memorabilia for his big night.

Kings rookie Kyle Guy has been playing well for the franchises G-League affiliate in Stockton, but has received multiple call-ups when the big league squad is in need of bodies. Thus, before Friday, Guy had only appeared in one game for Sacramento this year, going 0 for 1 in 2:40 of playing time in a blowout loss to the Bucks.

His second appearance would be more memorable. With the Kings up by 15 with 1:18 left to play in the game against the Bulls, coach Luke Walton made his final substitutions, replacing the regular rotation players for the remainder of garbage time. Guy was inserted into the lineup along with Harry Giles and others.

On the first play after the substitution, Guy ran a rub-handoff with a screen from Giles just a step inside the three-point line on the right-wing. With no hesitation, Guy rose up for his second NBA shot. With the ball in mid-air, Giles threw his hands up in early celebration. The shot hit nothing but net, and Kyle Guy had the first bucket of his NBA career.

In his post-game interview, Hield was asked why he tracked down the game ball after the final buzzer. He said that he wanted to make sure that it got to Guy as a memento to remember the night he scored his first points. “He has to have that,” Hield said with a smile.

As with any NBA player on a two-way contract, Guy’s future in the NBA is unknown. He is experiencing the world of call-ups and send-downs, and will look forward to each and every opportunity that comes his way. He certainly made the most of his shot on Friday night.
