The Cons

Although the acquisition of Drummond would improve the Kings’ frontcourt, it most likely would hinder other parts of the team’s roster. If the Kings want to trade for the star center, it means they would have to give up some of their assets, as well as match the lucrative salary that Drummond is due.

A player like Nemanja Bjelica or Bogdan Bogdanvocic, players that have been valuable to the Kings this season, would likely be part of the deal. And for the Kings and their fans, is parting with one, or both, of those guys worth the price for Drummond?

Also, Drummond is currently on a 5-year deal worth over $127 million. The good thing is that the contract expires in 2021 which would not interfere with the Kings’ plans on signing both De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley to long-term deals. But Drummond’s deal after that might?

If the Kings are giving away assets for Drummond, it likely means that the front office views him as a long-term option. So once Drummond’s contract expires, the Kings would likely offer him his second big contract. Maybe not as expensive than his previous deal, but similar.

Not the best thing to look forward to when the Kings currently have a bevy of young talents on their roster who are currently on rookie deals.
