Sacramento Kings: A Quick Assessment On Marvin Bagley’s Return
By Gurjus Singh
Sacramento Kings’ Marvin Bagley III has played three games since coming back from his thumb injury. Let us look at the strengths and weaknesses during his return.
The Strengths
Since coming back, Marvin Bagley has shown all his strengths from his rookie year which centers around his scoring ability. In terms of efficiency, Bagley has done a solid job as he is averaging around 13 points in 24 minutes of play while making around 47% of his shots from the floor.
To no surprise, scoring has been the plus for Marvin in his return. He is an athletic and lengthy talent that can get his shot the majority of the time he gets the ball in his hands. Going forward, he will be a top option for the Sacramento Kings offensively.
Weaknesses
Bagley has yet to show what he has been able to improve on in the offseason, and that is due to the small sample size this season.
One weakness from Bagley has been his three-point shooting in which he is shooting 25% from the area. Another weakness has been his playmaking ability as there have been countless times where Marvin has failed to look for his teammates, resulting in him averaging under one assist a game.
Fans also have noticed how Marvin heavily relies on his left hand on offense. Last season he incorporated his right hand much more and should continue that trend as this season goes along.
Final Thoughts
Bagley has only played four games this season, but right now, he seems to be the same player as he was during his rookie season with little improvement shown. Hopefully, this is just Bagley taking the rust off his game as he continues to find his niche with the team. When assessing the sophomore forward in the next 20-30 games, fans should keep an eye on how much he has improved on his weaknesses compared to his rookie campaign.
