With the Sacramento Kings calling up Kyle Guy from the G-League, does he have a chance for some playing time during the team’s four-game road trip?
The Sacramento Kings are currently on the road where they are scheduled to play the Boston Celtics tonight. So far, the road trip for the purple and white has been solid. The Kings got beat easily when they went to the Barclay Center to play against the Brooklyn Nets but bounced back well when they defeated the Washington Wizards yesterday.
While the Kings have been on the road, their once deep roster has been thin. In both games, they have played without Marvin Bagley III and De’Aaron Fox, and against the Nets, add Bogdan Bogdanovic to that list of no-gos as well.
As an attempt for Sacramento to add more depth to their team, they decided to add Kyle Guy to their roster. Guy was one of the Kings’ second-round picks this year and has been playing for the Stockton Kings, the franchise’s G-League affiliate, since the beginning of the season. But even though Guy is on the bench for the Kings, will Luke Walton call his number in the upcoming games?
Does Guy Get His Chance?
I do think Kyle Guy will finally get his shot to play in the NBA soon. Whether that is happening during meaningful minutes of the game, however, is still undecided.
I can envision Guy’s debut happening during the middle of the contest where the minutes are more significant, but I think it will happen when garbage time is in play when the Kings are blowing a team out or vice versa.
I think this stage of the game would be a typical time for Guy to start his debut, as it gives him the chance to play true to himself due to the game already being decided and him going up against the lesser competition.
Guy Deserves Opportunity
Nothing has been concrete, but I think Kyle Guy will start his NBA career shortly. But even though his playing time is up in the air, he has done enough to at least deserve a shot. During his time with the Stockton Kings, Guy was on a tear. Not only has Guy shown his ability to put up points but has been someone who is setting up others to score as well.
With Stockton, Guy has been the ultimate playmaker for the team and I believe he has earned the chance to see what he can do against NBA competition. In the seven games he has played in, he has averaged around 25 points, six assists, and four rebounds a game.
C’mon, Luke. Let the fans see what their rookie can do.
