The Sacramento Kings got a second chance against the Phoenix Suns after humiliating themselves in the season opener. This time, they came out on top to creep themselves closer in the playoff race.
To begin the 2019-20 campaign, the Sacramento Kings had high expectations for themselves. After coming off a season which had the team one spot shy of the playoffs, as well as finishing an offseason adding more depth to their roster, the mentality was playoffs or bust entering this year.
Unfortunately, the Kings started the season slow as they were losers of their first five games, causing the Kings community to panic and protest for people’s jobs within the organization.
The mess began when Sacramento faced off against the Phoenix Suns in the season opener, which resulted in a blowout loss. Since that game, the Kings had to target the next time they would face the Suns so they could avenge themselves. That time happened last night when the Suns came to the Golden 1 Center where Kings were able to get the job done this time.
Kings Avenge Themselves
It was not pretty, but the Kings were able to beat the Suns by a score of 120-116. The Kings played great to start the game as they dominated on both sides of the ball in the first half, giving them a lead of 20+ points during times in the game. But when the second half came along, the Suns started to rally and make their way back into the game. Luckily, the Kings were able to hang on just enough to give them the win.
Top players in this game for Sacramento were Nemanja Bjelica who scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Richaun Holmes who scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and Bogdan Bogdanovic who scored 31 points and distributed seven assists.
Kings Have Come A Long Way
The Kings have come a long way since October. Just a couple of weeks ago, Kings fans were starting to give up on their team as they were playing like the worst squad in the NBA. But since their 0-5 start, the team is now 6-2 and just one spot shy of the #8 seed in the Western Conference. All of this happening without De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley III.
Sacramento is now on the rise and back to where they were last season. If they can continue to play as they have so far in November, they will make their way up in the standings and become the playoff-contending team that fans hoped they would be.
