With Sacramento Kings’ point guard De’Aaron Fox out with an ankle injury, Justin James deserves a chance to showcase his game.

The Sacramento Kings experienced harsh news recently as De’Aaron Fox suffered a Grade 3 ankle sprain which will sideline him for at least 3-4 weeks. This calls for the question of who will have the opportunity to play in his absence?

There will be multiple players that Sacramento will rely on to pick up the slack, but Justin James is a guy that should be allowed to play. To recall, James was the first guy that the Kings drafted in the 2019 draft with the 40th pick.

As of now, the fans of Sacramento are unsure where James falls into the team’s future plans. But with the chance to play, they would have the opportunity to find out.

With Fox gone, it gives another guard a chance to play some minutes. James should be the other guard to get that chance to prove himself. With these minutes, it will provide him with some developmental time, build confidence in his game, and show Luke Walton what he can bring to the table against NBA level talent. James from his summer league play showed scoring versatility and promise on defense. Hopefully, he has improved since.

Where To Play James?

Even with Fox injured, James’ minutes will be limited, if he ever gets any. The Kings will roll with Cory Joseph to start and have Yogi Ferrell as the backup. But James could get some minutes at shooting guard and small forward.

When James gets those minutes, he needs to be the best version of himself, especially on the defensive end. Offensively, James must make his perimeter shots so he can prove he can be reliable in that area.
