The Sacramento Kings Need To Learn How To Love Basketball Again
By Rafe Wong
The Sacramento Kings have been a mess during their first five games of the season. The number one step for them to get back to being competitive is to have fun.
I would say it has been a surprise, but really, it has not as the Sacramento Kings are back to their losing ways. Entering the season with a playoffs-or-bust mentality, the purple and white have showcased uninspired basketball in their first five games which have resulted in them being winless in the early campaign.
Everyone is to blame for the Kings’ struggles so far. Everyone from the top to the bottom of the organization. Although there have been multiple problems with this year’s Kings team, one major issue has been lack of passion. But if they are able to wake up and play with energy, it will help immensely in turning the ship back in the right direction.
Give The Fans What They Want
When going through fan reactions this season, there have been many complaints. Luke Walton‘s rotations are off, the veterans are underachieving, and the team is not making makable shots. But the biggest criticism so far has been the lack of energy.
The Kings need to understand that it is not hard to please their fans. Get people that love the sport of basketball and are inspired when they set foot on the court. If this team can consistently play energetic basketball for 48 straight minutes a game, they will immediately improve and win back their fans.
Take Richaun Holmes, for example. He has been one of the few bright spots for Sacramento this season and has instantly become a favorite within the team’s fanbase. The love for Richaun does not come mainly from his numbers, although that is a factor, but because he is playing with relentless energy. Every time he is on the court, he plays with passion and gets the fans hyped to watch their team.
Kings Need To Have Fun
The Kings need to take notes from Holmes and learn again how to love basketball. They showed the passion last season. They can easily gain it back if they want to.
Their lack of execution is fine now. It is no excuse, but unfortunately, it is going to take time for this roster to gel and play up to their potential. But the team should make a note to never lose the passion and be uninspired when playing games going forward.
No matter what the score is, each King should be blessed that playing their childhood sport is their current profession. The purple and white need to erase the last five games in their heads. Throw the tape away and start tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz not stressing about winning, but rather to have fun.
