Be Ready

The coaching staff is not going to simply hand Giles any significant minutes to start. There may be games when he is on the active roster and doesn’t see any playing time. It is likely that some of Giles’ first minutes of this NBA season will be in garbage time when the Kings are up (doubtful) or down by an insurmountable margin. It will be imperative that he comes in and showcases the full range of his abilities any time he is given the opportunity.

Another possible path to playing time would be through the struggles or injury of a teammate. We saw an influx of playing time for Richaun Holmes over the last two games, Walton favoring him heavily over Dedmon. Should Dedmon continue to struggle, Giles could pick up the minutes that he is leaving on the table.

Perhaps Walton sees Giles as a savior of some kind and gives him regular rotation minutes right off the bat. It might not be the most level-headed decision to insert an inexperienced and injury-prone youngster into the every-day lineup, though we wouldn’t put any stupid decisions past Walton at this point.

It's Official: The Sacramento Kings Are Terrible. dark. Next

No matter the situation, Harry Giles must make sure that he is well-conditioned and properly prepared should his number be called. The Sacramento Kings might be in need of his services sooner rather than later.
