Rebound
One of the reasons that the Kings may have an interest in getting Giles back in the rotation is because of their struggles with rebounding.
Sacramento ranks 26th in the league in total rebounds per game, an area that needs addressing if the Kings hope to make any kind of noise or progress this season. No player on the Kings roster has even come close to averaging 10 rebounds per game in any given season throughout their careers. Through five games, Richaun Holmes leads the team with 6.3 per, if you don’t count Marvin Bagley’s 10 boards on opening night.
While the NBA has certainly transformed in to a guard-centric league, rebounds still lead to possessions and second-chance opportunities, and the Kings need any kind of advantage that they can get.
In a very small sample size from last season, Giles pulled down 3.8 rebounds in his 14 minutes. Those numbers transpose in to a per-36 of just shy of 10 boards per game, and while he certainly wouldn’t be receiving 36 minutes of play, the rebounds that he could pull down in his limited playing time would be beneficial for the Kings.
