Fox Is Back

The Sacramento Kings will go as De’Aaron Fox goes.

The third-year point guard is the catalyst for the Kings. It is Fox’s skillset and identity that the team models itself around, and they struggle mightily when he is off of his game.

In the opener against Phoenix, Fox got in to early foul trouble and was placed on a minutes watch for the rest of the game. It was an unfortunate series of events that eventually led to Sacramento getting blown out by a team that they were supposed to beat. Fox finished that game with just eight points to go along with five turnovers and five fouls.

The De’Aaron Fox that showed flashes of brilliance last season made his 2019-’20 debut in the game against Portland. He attacked the paint early and often, earning himself 14 free throw attempts throughout the game of which he converted 11. He was able to keep the turnovers and fouls down closer to his average and also went 3 for 5 from deep.

While he will most certainly need his teammates to step up and provide some support, Fox is everything for Sacramento right now. Reports from the locker room after Friday’s game revealed that he was banged up late in the game and has a sore hip, something that the team will monitor ahead of their game tonight against the Utah Jazz.
