Underwhelming Free Agent Signings

Cory Joseph and Richaun Holmes have had decent showings in their first two games with the Kings, but the other two free-agent signings from the summer have been disappointing.

Trevor Ariza was held scoreless against Portland for the first time since January of 2018 when he was a member of the Rockets. He went 0 for 4 from the field including three ugly misses from beyond the arc.

Ariza was signed to give the Kings a veteran presence as well as a potential contributor off of the bench. He was certainly unable to do the latter in Friday’s game. Coach Luke Walton must hold Ariza in high regard as the veteran has logged 42 minutes of playing time so far this year.

Dewayne Dedmon has also been underwhelming. Dedmon received just 14 minutes of run in the game against the Suns, but had that number upped to 21 against Portland. The increase in opportunities did not equate to an uptick in production. He grabbed 7 of his 8 rebounds before halftime, and turned the ball over five times throughout the game.

Dedmon was brought to Sacramento in part because of his three-point ability and knack for stretching the floor. He is currently 0-5 from deep for the season.
