Kings: Division Matchup – Not overlooking the Phoenix Suns
What Changes, What Remains The Same?
Sammy, what would you expect to change and what stays the same this season in regards to strengths, weaknesses, and playstyle of this Phoenix team?
Sammy Chibulka: Thanks a lot, Brenden. That is correct, similar to the Sacramento Kings, the Phoenix Suns had a busy summer. They added a new head coach, Monty Williams. The team also made improvements to their roster as well as adding Dario Saric, Ricky Rubio, Aron Baynes, Frank Kaminsky, Jevon Carter, and Cheick Diallo. The Suns added players in the draft as well: Cameron Johnson, Ty Jerome, and Jalen Lecque. For the first year in a long time, Phoenix Sun fans are excited for the season to begin, yet the expectations aren’t high, but hope for the future is. A very rare feeling to experience for Arizona fans.
The Suns’ roster seems more complete than it has been in the past, and they finally have a coach that seems respected and get the best out of his players. Devin Booker’s improvement is essential in the team’s growth, but if it is like the past years he will improve and hopefully become a league-wide star. The consistency of other players is also important The main keys to the Suns’ growth will be health, defense, and 3-point shooting.
Those same three keys could be argued as the focus for Sacramento this upcoming season, but the Kings are simply further along with their identity already in place and I feel safe in saying a better overall roster.
