Sacramento Kings: 3 Predictions On Cory Joseph’s Season
Cory will play under 20 minutes a game
In Cory Joseph’s last four years, first with the Toronto Raptors and then with the Indiana Pacers, he has played at least 25 minutes per game. When doing the roster math, it would shock me if he gets to that number again this year. That is of course barring any catastrophic injuries to one of De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, or Bogdan Bogdanovic.
Last year Fox played 31.4 minutes per game, and with him potentially taking another leap that could be increased to 33 or 34. The Kings only have 96 total minutes at the guard spots to divvy up between Fox, Hield, Bogdanovic, and Joseph. And that is not even including Yogi Ferrell who has played well during the preseason.
In recent years, Joseph played a lot of his minutes in two point-guard lineups with a guy like Kyle Lowry or Darren Collison next to him in the backcourt. It is hard to imagine a ton of that this year under first-year coach Luke Walton.
In matchups where the Kings are getting torched by a guy like Damian Lilliard or Steph Curry, Joseph is a good guy to insert into the matchup. Expect Joseph to hover around the 18 minutes a game when the team is at full strength.
