Reason #2: Buddy Is The Perfect Compliment To De’Aaron
When the Kings decided to use their first-round pick on De’Aaron Fox in the 2017 draft, they envisioned him being their point guard of the future. But for Fox to play at his full potential, the Kings still needed a two guard that complimented his game. Fortunately, the Kings already had that in Buddy.
Although the Kings have not been great these last two seasons, one promising note to take away is that they have a starting backcourt that could be elite shortly. De’Aaron and Buddy are a perfect match. Both love to play fast and tire the defense out. And when Fox has the ball and is sprinting down the court, he has the option to either use his athleticism to drive to the hoop or dish it out to Hield for a high-percentage perimeter shot.
Especially last season, the Kings and their fans saw the potential the tandem had as both were the main reasons why Sacramento was an exciting team. The duo combined for around 38 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists per contest.
There is no doubt that the Kings view Fox as their long-term point guard, so why not pair him with a player that best compliments his skillset? Having Fox and Hield as the starting backcourt helps both of them reach their ceilings which will make the Kings eventually become a playoff team for years to come.
