4 Reasons Why The Sacramento Kings Need To Extend Buddy Hield
By Rafe Wong
The biggest question in the Sacramento Kings community is whether the team will extend Buddy Hield. Here are four reasons why I think they should.
The Sacramento Kings are entering the 2019-20 season with high expectations. After finishing last year with a record of 39-43, while being one spot shy of making the postseason, the mission now is to make the playoffs.
The chances of the purple and white qualifying for the postseason are good, as Vlade Divac and the company filled the previous holes on their roster with veteran role players that complement the youngsters’ talents.
So with the Kings entering the regular season with their most deep and complete roster in over a decade, they seem to be in good shape. But in the last couple of days, some turmoil has developed within the locker room.
Not too long ago, the Kings offered their sharpshooter Buddy Hield an extension that would have him getting paid around $90 million in four years. But based on multiple reports, the former Oklahoma Sooner is looking for a price range of around $110 million for the same amount of years.
Due to there being no deal yet, Buddy has been public about how he wants to stay in Sacramento but is willing to walk away if a deal cannot be done.
The Kings have a tough situation on their hands. They definitely can offer Buddy the contract he wants, but it could result in them not being able to keep other players down the road *cough* De’Aaron Fox *cough* Marvin Bagley III *cough*.
But with that said, I do believe Buddy should be offered a contract at least close to his asking price, and here are four reasons why.
