What To Watch For In First Match Up?

The first matchup is unlikely to be competitive for the marquee players as they are simply trying to adjust to the new season. Fans can expect to see most of the reserves and the second unit play for much of the game. One of the first things to look for is whether or not the Kings can improve on the defensive end right away. Last season, the Kings ranked 21st in defensive rating, having allowed 110.8 pts per 100 possesions.

How Fast Will The Kings Play?

During the offseason, new head coach Luke Walton stated that the Kings will run even faster.  In the first preseason game, fans will hopefully be able to get a sense of what Walton’s offense will be like, and just how fast it can be. The Kings ranked third in pace last season behind only the Hawks and Pelicans.

Who Will Be Able To Step Up From The Bench?

The Kings have some new additions, and we will see how they fit in right away. Don’t expect Marvin Bagley, De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes, or Buddy Hield to play heavy minutes. Instead, we will most likely see guys like Richaun Holmes, who will be exciting to watch because of his energy. Cory Joseph and Yogi Ferrell will both be expected to lead the Kings in pace off the bench. We will also be seeing if Kyle Guy has improved from Summer League, as well as Justin James, whose playing time is contingent on his ability to improve his jump shot.

What Can Be Expected Out Of Dedmon, Bagley, and Bogdanovic?

These guys probably won’t receive significant minutes until mid-preseason. But fans should watch to see if Dedmon can keep his three-point percentage up from last season, and if he can run on the fast break and can play defense while helping the Kings in rebounding. We’ll also see if Bagley has gotten any better at playmaking and using his right hand, and if Bogdanovic can bounce back from an underwhelming performance last season.

No matter the case, it will be refreshing to have Sacramento Kings basketball back in action. The regular season starts in just 20 days.
