The Sacramento Kings have been conservative with Harry Giles for too long. It is time to let him be free.

Not too long ago, the Sacramento Kings left for India to play their first two preseason games against the Indiana Pacers. Before the Kings left the country, the report came out that two players from the team would be left behind due to injury concerns.

The first player mentioned was Tyler Ulis who was reported to have an injury to the groin. The second player was Harry Giles who was reported to have discomfort in his knee.

The Kings took action to Giles as they set up an MRI on his knee last Monday, as reported by Jason Anderson, writer for the Sacramento Bee. According to Anderson, the results of the MRI showed nothing new in Giles’ knee and he should be healthy to start the regular season with his team.

Let Harry Free

It is good news to hear that nothing serious happened to Giles. But recent action has shown that Sacramento is not ready to let the young king free.

For the last two years, the Kings have been hyping up their former first-round pick to the public due to his versatile skill set and relentless energy. Although we have seen flashes of what Harry can be in his future, he has not lived up to the buildup yet.

Although healthy, the Kings have been careful with Giles in the past as they have limited his playing time and have sat him out in games. This used to be understandable in the past when Giles was still rehabbing his knees, but there comes a time when being conservative should not be an option anymore.

The Kings need to find out whether Giles is a guy that they can rely on going forward and they need to know this season. They cannot just keep advertising him without giving him the confidence to play significant minutes.

Final Thoughts

If there are concerns about Harry’s health, then Sacramento should absolutely be careful with him and make sure he is all good when the regular season starts. But based on recent news, it seems like he is healthy and the team is just being careful with him.

I hope this trend comes to an end regarding Harry Giles. It is tiring to hear the Kings keep talking about how great he is without them giving him an opportunity to fully showcase his talents. I firmly believe that if he can stay healthy, Giles can be a valuable piece to the Kings on both ends of the floor, but that will never happen until the Kings fully take off the training wheels.
