Player #3: Justin James
Similar to Kyle Guy, Justin James looks to be another candidate who will be fighting to be the third-string shooting guard for Sacramento, making him another guy Tyler Ulis might have to beat out.
During summer league, James had a so-so campaign. He was able to showcase flashes of his potential on both ends of the floor but was inconsistent in being an asset. During his summer campaign, he averaged around nine points and four rebounds a contest and made around 44% of his shots from the floor and 27% of his shots from the three-point line.
When analyzing this matchup between James and Ulis, Ulis seems to be at a big disadvantage. Although James’ pure position is two-guard, he can play small forward as well. And in the NBA today, having versatility on a team’s roster is a big plus.
For Ulis, he can only play point guard due to his size and skillset. So even if he does plays better than James in camp, James could still make the roster over him by default. For Ulis to beat out James, he must put on an impressive showing to the coaches. But even if James does earn a spot on the team before Ulis, it does not mean that Ulis cannot still make the roster.
