Sacramento Kings: Three Things To Watch For In Training Camp
Kings training camp opens later this week, and there is a handful of storylines to watch for throughout the preseason.
After a long, eventful summer that included many thousands of miles of travel for some, the offseason is coming to an end. Training camp for the Sacramento Kings begins this Saturday, September 28th. Media Day and coach availability will be held a day prior, on the 27th, but the real business will begin over the weekend.
The Kings will enter the 2019-2020 season with some form expectations for the first time this decade. Their surge to relevance last year allowed the front office to identify the team’s weaknesses and shortcomings, which they addressed through free agency.
While qualifying for the Western Conference playoffs for the first time since 2006 is going to prove to be a difficult task, coming up short would likely render the season a disappointment. The players undoubtedly agree as they are hungry for wins and tired of the negative reputation that has followed the franchise.
We will learn a lot about the Kings during the upcoming training camp. It is a time to gel and form a cohesiveness, which is something that will be very important for new head coach Luke Walton to establish. The team is on an upward swing for the first time in recent memory, and they will rely on their new leader to take them to the next level. We will get an insight in to Walton’s plan and vision when he meets with the media on the eve of camp.
The players shouldn’t get comfortable in Sacramento. The Kings will take part in the NBA India Games 2019, the first time any North American sports league will play games staged in the Asian nation. Those games take place on October 4th and 5th, meaning that the Kings will have just four or five days of camp before the 16,000+ mile trip.
We take a look at three intriguing storylines that may surround the Sacramento Kings during training camp.
