Sacramento Kings 2010s All-Decade Team
Center – DeMarcus Cousins 2015-2016
26.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists per game
The easiest and most obvious selection for the Sacramento Kings 2010’s All-Decade Team is DeMarcus Cousins for the center position.
Cousins was essentially the only reason that the Kings mattered throughout the entire decade. His 2014-15 selection to the All-Star Game was the first for a King since Brad Miller and Peja Stojakovic received the honor way back in 2004. Whether it was his stellar play or his controversial personality, Cousins was the only reason that the Kings ever got on to any SportsCenter highlights.
More than just a star player, Cousins was a key to relevancy.
So which season was his statistical best? The answer would be 2015-2016, Cousins’ final full season in a Kings uniform. He averaged just shy for 27 points per game, which was fourth-best in the league that year. His rebound numbers were down from the previous season, but still remained at an impressive 11.5 per game.
It was not only the point production from that season that stood out above the rest, but the shot selection as well. This was the first year that Cousins added a three-point shot to his arsenal, averaging 3.2 attempts per game after shooting just a total of eight the season before.
Cousins made the second of his three All-Star Games in a Kings uniform that season in what was another disappointing year for Sacramento. He would never make it back to the California capital after the third All-Star appearance, as he was traded to New Orleans just hours after the game.
But he makes it on the Kings All-Decade Team as a unanimous shoo-in.
