Shooting Guard – Buddy Hield 2018-2019

20.7 points, 2.5 assists, 5 rebounds per game

Buddy Hield is the first of two current Sacramento Kings to make the All-Decade Team.

The Kings leading scorer in 2018-’19, Hield had a historical year last season. He made 287 three-pointers, the 7th highest single-season total in NBA history, and more than Klay Thompson or Ray Allen has ever had.

Hield shot 42.7% from beyond the arc, meaning that no one shot as many threes at a better clip aside from Stephen Curry. He was one of the most improved players in the league last year, placing fourth in the MIP voting behind teammate De’Aaron Fox.

Just last week, Hield made his debut in Sports Illustrated’s annual rankings of the top 100 NBA players, coming in at number 54. To put it simply, most Kings that rank the top 100 in the league in any given season of the 2010 decade deserve a spot on the All-Decade Team.

Shooting guard has actually been one of the most productive positions for the Sacramento Kings during the decade. Both Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton were the Kings leading scorers in the early years. Thornton actually led the team in scoring during the 2011-12 season, beating out both Evans and second-year player DeMarcus Cousins.

Hield’s 2018-19 season, however, is the best year that a shooting guard has enjoyed in Sacramento over the last decade.
