Recently, Sacramento Kings shooting guard Buddy Hield’s home country of the Bahamas was ravaged by Hurricane Dorian. Hield posted to social media to share the news:
Buddy Hield’s Connection to the Bahamas
The Bahamas is an archipelago off of the Atlantic coast of Florida, and is inhabited by a population of 395,361 people. Buddy Hield comes from Freeport, Bahamas, in a region called Eight Mile Point. He was born into a poor family with seven siblings, and his mother had to work three jobs to support their family. Buddy would spend most of his time outside shooting hoops through a crate, which he taped to a light pole. During his time living with his family, his sleeping conditions were anything but normal, cramming into two queen-sized mattresses with his seven siblings in a 4 bedroom house. While living in the Bahamas he became one of the top eighth-grade basketball players being featured in a magazine called the All Bahamian Brand. He also led his high school teams to multiple championships.
How is Buddy helping out after Hurricane Dorian?
Hield is helping out by donating $100,000 dollars through the Buddy Hield Foundation. He has also donated a percentage of $105,000 to UNICEF with the help of the Kings organization. He has organized a GoFundMe page as well, with hopes of raising an additional $1,000,000.
How can fans help?
The fans can team up with the Kings by going to the Disaster Relief site that Kings.com has referenced. Fans can also help out by going to the GoFundMe page listed above.
Let’s all pray for the Bahamas, and help Buddy Hield with a great cause by donating.
