Consistency

The drive and determination of Willie Cauley-Stein was a constant cause for concern. His demeanor, as well as his comments to the media, were often questionable, and those traits reflected on his on-court consistency.

There were games when Cauley-Stein would simply check out. There is footage of him walking off the court with the ball still in the air on a last-second shot. There were important games in which his lack of boxing out cost the Kings a chance at victory.

He was wildly inconsistent. Last season, Cauley-Stein pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds and scored 10 points in a late-season game. The following game, he had exactly zero rebounds and shot the ball just once, both season lows.

While Dedmon’s rebounding totals and averages may not be as high as those of Cauley-Stein, his production is much more steady. Dedmon possesses the ability to have big rebounding nights (9 games with 12+ rebounds last season) while maintaining consistency within the category.

Dedmon may not be the freak athlete that Cauley-Stein is, but his heart and determination certainly make up for the athletic difference.

While Dedmon may not be the sexy free agent signing that turns heads around the league, the effort and consistency he puts forth will be a huge upgrade over what the Kings had had previously.
