The Kings newly-acquired backup point guard is slated to play for Team Canada if reports from last week are correct. Canada needs him.

Almost all of Canada’s NBA talent opted not to participate in this year’s tournament, including the likes of Jamal Murray, Tristan Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Dwight Powell. The only NBA talent on the team aside from Joseph is Orlando Magic center Khem Birch.

Joseph is not currently with the team as they prepare in Australia, but according to reports from The Score and Yahoo! Sports, he is expected to report to camp sometime before the start of the tournament in Beijing.

While Team Canada is not expected to make a lot of noise in the tournament, Joseph will be an interesting follow. Had De’Aaron Fox remained on Team USA, an August 26th exhibition matchup between Canada and the US would have pitted Sacramento’s two point guards against one another.
